We need to continually operate, maintain and develop New Zealand’s transmission network – the National Grid – to ensure we meet the ongoing electricity needs of New Zealanders.
We are replacing the conductor on the Bunnythorpe to Haywards A and B lines with a slightly larger conductor which will help meet the future electricity needs of New Zealand. These lines start from Haywards, passing by communities at Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Otaki, Waitarere and Foxton on their way to Bunnythorpe.
We expect the cost of the project on all New Zealand consumers to be up to about $3.12 a year (or about 26 cents a month) for an average consumer. Over the longer term this cost will reduce.

The present conductor on these lines is around 30 years old, and the coastal environment in which much of the lines are located has accelerated its wear. The replacement conductor will also be more energy efficient, and provide extra capacity which will give us more flexibility for future projects.
We do not expect the local power supply to be affected during this project, although there may be some construction disruption particularly in those areas close to the lines (like Waikanae). We will do our best to keep any disruption to a minimum and to keep you well informed of what we're up to.
