From late January through to May 2013 Transpower will set up a construction site just north of the Sulphur Beach dinghy lockers.
This is a continuation of Transpower’s grid upgrade to reinforce the power supply into Auckland and Northland which involves installing underground cables between Albany and Pakuranga.
The work near Sulphur Beach involves excavating and extending an existing joint bay where the cable sections will be connected. Machinery and equipment will be transported to and from the site via Sulphur Beach Road.
The work will take place from 7am to 6pm during the week and 8am to 6pm on Saturday.
The footpath along Shoal Bay from the motorway underpass will be closed for the safety of pedestrians for the duration of the works. Access to the lockers and car park will be maintained via Sulphur Beach Road, however there may be times where access could be restricted for short periods when heavy vehicles need to access site.
Over the coming months cables will be installed under the Auckland Harbour Bridge and into existing ducting installed around Sulphur Beach. These cables connect new substations being constructed at Hobson Street and Wairua Road.
