Transpower is currently upgrading its communication system that underpins the operation of the National Grid. As part of that work we need to install a fibre optic cable between the Takapu and Haywards Substations, through the Belmont Regional Park. This cable will provide diversity for the existing National Grid communications link between the North and South Islands.
The cable will be buried underground, largely beneath existing access and walking tracks as shown on the attached map.
Works to install the cable are scheduled to begin in the week commencing Monday 27 May 2013, and are expected to continue, until 19 July 2013 as ground and weather conditions permit. Construction times are 7:30am to 7:00pm (including weekends and public holidays).
Signage will be located at all park entrances and precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of park users. Park users are urged to exercise extra caution when in the vicinity of machinery and equipment.
