You could be mistaken for thinking it's the newest type of jungle gym at Whakamaru School, but it is in fact a felled transmission tower.
Last week Whakamaru Primary School students watched on as the 21 metre tower was pulled over as part of Transpower's Wairakei to Whakamaru C line project.
Towers through the Whakamaru Village were removed as the final part of the project that was commissioned in July 2014.
Local resident and Ratepayers and Resident committee member Charlene Campbell, said Transpower is a great example of a company that really looks after the communities where they work.
"We’re really pleased to see the towers finally come down. Transpower has been really great to work with throughout this project. They've really looked after us and it's nice to work with a company that actually cares about the locals and the community," she said.
Over 110 tower structures and 42 km of redundant line will be removed in total as part of the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of March.
