HVDC September 2023 Outage

During scheduled annual HVDC maintenance earlier this year, we identified the need for further preventative maintenance on cable sealing ends on three HVDC cables. This is maintenance work to ensure the cable sealing ends are reliable until they need replacing as scheduled sometime after 2030.

This work needs to be completed months before the next scheduled annual maintenance so will take place between 16 September and 1 October.

There will be short Pole 3 outages, accompanied by periods of reduced Pole 3 capacity due to operating on a single cable and a Pole 2 outage, but no bi-pole outage will be required. The recall time if needed during the Pole 2 outage is six hours.

The System Operator has issued a Customer Advice Notice setting out how it will operate the HVDC system during the outage.
