Our volunteer programme

Our staff are given one special leave day a year to volunteer in the community. Staff can support any organisation they wish or join one of the events organised by our Sustainability Collective and partner organisations focused on sustainability. Recent activities organised by the Sustainability Collective include organises tree planting, packaging food parcels, trap maintenance, building restoration, and urban farming.

Get in touch with our Sustainability Collective to add your event to our volunteer calendar.

Laptops for schools

We donate a portion of our retired IT equipment to local schools neighbouring our transmission lines and the Recycle A Device (RAD) programme that refurbishes devices before then sending them to students in need - namely high school students learning computer engineering skills. One of our recent donations was to the lovely folks at Te Horo School in Whangarei, where we provided its entire roll with devices.

Supporting the next generation

We invest in initiatives that support careers in the energy sector and provide a range of scholarships to support and encourage study in STEM. Our partners include NanoGirl Labs, Engineering New Zealand, ShadowTech, Microsoft and NZTech.

Transpower is the chief sponsor and co-designer of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) programme called the Power Challenge, as part of Engineering New Zealand’s Wonder Project running in New Zealand schools. Find out more.
