Transpower has welcomed the Commerce Commission’s approval of its Waikato Upper-North Island Voltage Management (WUNIVM) major capital expenditure proposal.

GM Grid Development John Clarke says the team will now take time to consider the Commission’s final decision and the current market environment, before deciding next steps.

“We are pleased to have received approval during this time of market uncertainty but will reassess the timing of the components based on the latest industry information.

We also remain committed to assessing whether there are better, non-transmission, solutions to manage voltage stability in the Waikato and Upper North Island region.

If changes to our approach do become appropriate we will engage with industry again before seeking to amend our approval with the Commerce Commission, if required.”
