A Technical Expert is an experienced person with current and proven technical knowledge and skills in a subject area. They must be a current employee of the Service Provider of the learner who they are assigned to. They will be a senior person in charge who is trusted by their employer and colleagues as being competent in their trade discipline.
Technical Experts carry out practical observations, under assessment conditions, to verify aspects of a learner’s performance on the job. They must directly observe the learner performing the task, verifying practical performance.
Throughout the electricity supply industry, Technical Experts are used to verify learner performance when there is no assessor available to conduct an assessment observation on the job.
Grid Skills provides standardised assessment documents for on-job verification of practical performance, and these include instructions to the Technical Expert.

The entries and comments you make on the assessment documents should be legible and clear in meaning. Grid Skills, as the training provider, retains responsibility for the final sign off of any on-job assessment that is carried out as part of a Grid Skills training programme.
