Due to a flock of birds creating large nests on our transmission line/towers that feed power to the Tirau, Matamata and Hinuera townships and surrounding areas, we unfortunately need to remove the line urgently from service tomorrow — Friday 17 November. This will result in a power outage to these areas from 10:30am – 2:30pm as the area is fed by a single transmission line.
The nests have caused issues with the power supply this evening, and we need to urgently remove them. If we fail to do so, it could cause a larger issue on the network resulting in prolonged outages to the area. We recognise this will cause an inconvenience to the local community, and apologise for the interruption. To try and reduce the impact, we have worked with your local distribution company Powerco to schedule the outage at the lowest ‘power usage’ time for the area.
Please treat all power outlets as live at all times as we will try to restore power as quickly as is safely possible.
