Transpower is looking to the future and we want to discuss long-term trends and emerging needs, technologies and solutions with our stakeholders, including the wider energy industry.
By developing these ideas together with you, we aim to deliver a transmission grid that best enables Aotearoa’s future energy system. As well as the discussion papers below, we also formally consult on our largest projects and our 5-year regulated workplan. Read more about our formal consultation process.
Discussion papers
- Examining the purpose and future role of our HVDC link - March 2024
A discussion on the changing role of the HVDC inter-island transmission link in New Zealand, in the context of increasing electrification. As Transpower prepares to upgrade the link and replace the undersea cables over the next decade, we are also considering the overall role and resilience of the link, as our dependence on it to ensure a reliable electricity supply increases.
- Corporate Power Purchase Agreements - October 2023
This paper explores the advantages and barriers for use of PPAs in the New Zealand market and provides examples of how these barriers are being addressed globally. PPAs are one of several tools for enabling both buyers of electricity and renewable developers to make investment decisions that can collectively deliver a decarbonised economy for New Zealand. The purpose of this paper is to provide insights to support discussion.
