Engaging with Transpower

We’d love to talk with you

We are always available to meet and talk to people who want to understand more about what we do. We’re passionate about the work we do to keep the lights on, and our part in providing the power system New Zealand will need to electrify and decarbonise its economy now and in the future. We’d love to talk with you! You can contact us here.

How we engage

Our network spans Aotearoa. We value talking to local communities, representative groups, mana whenua, and the wider energy industry about work we are investigating, planning, or undertaking, and the potential impacts. Our community engagement will vary depending on size, complexity, options, and impact our work will have.

Who we engage with

Landowner engagement

We often carry out regional engagement with stakeholders ahead of significant projects. These sessions typically involve meeting with councils, other infrastructure providers, our customers, large industrial power users, and developers.

Making sure we have a shared understanding of priorities and needs means we can work together to get the best available outcomes.

We work closely with more than 30,000 landowners who host our assets on or have lines that cross their properties. A team of our people work directly with these landowners to ensure they know what’s going on and when we are planning to inspect, maintain or upgrade our assets on/near their land.

We have close relationships with energy industry participants, and particularly New Zealand’s 29 local electricity lines businesses, and Transpower’s other customers (generators and large directly-connected industrial companies). We are regularly in contact with these companies across many parts of our business to work collaboratively, share information and ideas, and ensure the power system continues to meet the needs of New Zealanders.
