The success of the Grid Skills training model relies on quality on-job assessment, which requires technical experts in the field. 

On-job assessment offers learners many advantages including that: 

  • ngā ākonga (learners) are observed in familiar environments and on operational equipment, and 
  • evidence is naturally occurring, authentic and meets company specifications and requirements. 

What is a technical expert?

Technical experts collect evidence for on-job assessment and sign off the assessment on behalf of their company. Their decisions directly influence how well the ākonga (learner), the company and the transmission sector can maintain industry standards.
